The Ex-Philes Part 10 Excerpt 3...The Things Left Unsaid.

"I wanted a perfect ending. Now I've learned, the hard way, that some poems don't rhyme, and some stories don't have a clear beginning, middle, and end. Life is about not knowing, having to change, taking the moment and making the best of it, without knowing what's going to happen next. Delicious ambiguity". -Gilda Radner, 1946-1989

Today is the day...

Apropos that is is Valentines Day, I suppose, to talk about love.

This, my dear friends and readers is the last excerpt of Doug's story, and the Ex-Philes. Now that I have purged myself of my past demons, I suppose it is time to move on and let go of baggage. Easier said than done-yes...but hopefully my attempt at cleansing will not be futile this time.
So...on we go.

After the impending break-up with Jay, there we were...again-just Doug and I.
And although we both knew that we were longing for one anothers company, there was still a strange gap there. Things left unsaid, if you will.
Halloween came and went and he and I partied together, and had such a good time.

Then came a new phase...

I had a company holiday party in early November. I asked him to be my date, and he said: "Sure...free beer, free food...I'm in."
We dressed up and went...as a couple...he treated me as a girlfriend, and nothing less.
We were having such a good time, when as we were slow dancing they announced that they were drawing door prizes. I stopped suddenly, as I had not seen a place to sign up when walking in the door. I said: "Shit...I didn't sign up...that sucks....and we could have been leaving with some fabulous prize...man, bummer!"
He looked at me thoughtfully and said:

"The only fabulous prize I want is already going home with me tonight and I couldn't ask for a better one."

I blushed...
(shaddup)

We drove home and had a talk. Quite frankly, his signals were completely mixed and I was so unsure of what he had in his head that I was getting dizzy from it all...without even having had one drink.

So we talked.

We decided that getting back together was a bad idea at the time. and we both needed head clearing before we jumped back into anything. I admitted that I knew that he didn't see himself with me, and that he had made it perfectly clear that he was never going to be "in love" with me, but I still wanted to be in his life and...
He stopped me...

Well, he interjected...rather quickly, I might add-

"I never said that...I never said that we couldn't ever be together or that I would never love you"

I stopped for a second...considered the statement...and just kept on talking.

I don't know why I didn't want more of an explanation, or why I didn't ask him questions from there. Something just halted me.
I was thinking in my head about it...at a break-neck pace...but I just couldn't confront it...because part of me couldn't believe it.
I spent Thanksgiving with him and his family, and it was nice.
I wasn't invited to Christmas, but we spent the weekend before together and he cooked for me.
There has been lots of sex, lots of enjoyment of each others company, but little communication.
I feel like it has all been said, and beating a dead horse helps absolutely nothing at this point.

Remember when I briefly mentioned in the first post about having a deadline?
Yeah, well...this is where I elaborate.

My best friend, S...had leveled me with an ultimatum:
"If you don't talk to him by the Mardi-Gras party in February...I am. I will call him and tell him to shit or get off the damn pot. This has gone on for two years, Jaded...and I cannot bear to see you unhappy anymore over it. He either wants you-or he doesn't. This isn't fair to you, and you know it. I know you love him...but something has to give. And...you never know...it's been long enough now, maybe his thought pattern has changed by now. Either way, you have to do something..."

Uh Oh.
The Mardi-Gras party in next week...Saturday to be exact, formal attire, swanky-style cajun, free drinks...fun had by all. Afterplay: Hotel suite, fireplace, king-sized bed, and jacuzzi included.
Romantic, indulgent, hedonistic-fun.
And then...a talk.
But, about what?

I mean...I am NOT an ultimatum girl. I am not a head game player. And I am...a complete and total coward. I admit it.
Any ideas, anyone? Really...I'd love the imput.

So, today being Valentines Day and all...yes...I am spending it with Doug. We are staying in and having pizza and beer and...well the fun part comes later, as you can imagine.
It was his idea, though...weird as that may seem.

I was all set to mourn today in my jammies witt my fall back guys: Ben and Jerry.

So...
Now what?
Back to things left unsaid...or on to no Doug at all?

I'll update you after the party next week, where I will either be:
A.) crying, or
B.) celebrating.

We'll see.

Last thought-
Mr. Big: You make me very happy.
Carrie Bradshaw: Yeah, yeah... put it in writing...

Happy Valentines Day-
Jaded

I agree with your friend that it doesn't make much sense to let the limbo you are currently in continue indefinitely. I can also understand wanting to have a sense that a relationship is progressing. Even though you cannot know for sure towards what, you can at least know that it is changing or growing. If there is no sense of that, then you have to decide for yourself how long you want to spend in that state. Maybe 2 years is too much, maybe not.

I know...and I don't totally disgaree with her as well. But my problem lies in how to put this to him without making it seem like an ultimatum, or an end, so to speak. I am just not good at quitting...even on him, who has been less than direct in matters of the heart with me. I guess I just have to put on my big girl panties and confront it. But, I gotta tell ya...this scares the living shit out of me. As much as I would like to be a positive thinker, unfortunately...I am not, and the gloom and doom of the situation just keeps creeping in with no happy ending.
This is my last chance at love, no doubt. And no...not because I believe that there isn't some other willing body out there for me to be with, but because of a choice I am making not to be looking for it anymore-or wanting it from anyone else. I found my match, and the love I was looking for. I found it, and that's it...
No one else, truly. This is the last blast.
So it seems that I am looking down the side of a cliff here. He says yes, and we jump together...he says no, and I walk away from the cliff and leave love behind me.

That is really all too depressing to consider, really.

Dramatic?

Yep...

Completely me?

Yep...

So...this weekend is actually LIFE defining, if you will.
But...no pressure.

So you can understand my trepidation. I am not very sure if I can do this, honestly.

UGH.

Why does it have to be an ultimatum? Putting things in terms like: "if you don't agree to love me and stay with me forever right now I am never talking to you again", makes it an ultimatum.

How about something like: "I want to have an open and honest discussion about the current state of our relationship and also about what we each want in our futures"

That IS a good way to put things, honestly. I think what is stopping me is the answer I am going to get though.

I appreciate your input, and your honesty, Jack.
Truly appreciated.

I have mucho thinking to do...

(Sigh)

Hi Jaded! It's the random girl in Peoria who checks in on your blog. This weekend must be hard for you to face and I just wanted to offer some encouragement. I hear your struggle, as I have been in similar "relationship limbo" situations. The advice that I try to drill into my head is that I need to stand up for myself and for what I truly want and deserve... even if it means "taking a risk" that the man will no longer be in my life. Stick to your guns, Jaded, and make it your goal to feel good about yourself knowing that you did so... no matter what the outcome is. It is less painful to rip the band-aid off quickly than to slowly peel it away. Wishing you the best! Be strong! Please come back soon and let us know how the weekend went.

This is NOT an ode to a country song. Or, a religious jaunt. Hell to the no. Although, I do like the titled, aforementioned song. It's a good fable about letting go, letting God...you know, that old jazz.  It's a mantra.  That said, I had an epiphany today.  It's a good one, bear with me.  I've talked about my frenemy, ad nauseum. I know-it's getting pretty boring. I wish I could say, in my life, she's just as boring as hearing about her, but alas...the one thing she isn't is THAT.  Well, I have been through a lot of psychotherapy in my life-since early childhood. I struggled with ADHD and ODD as a child-which led my parents to take me in the first time. Keep in mind-these were the days that there were no IEP's, no accommodations, no sympathy for that devil. ADHD had no name, other than-hyperactivity, or "spirited"  So, the conclusion many parents came to was- my child must be mentally ill. What else could it be?  So, they took me in, and began...

Laughable...Truly Laughable...

Just a quick little ditty today: I checked the lady's blog today to see if anything else had been copied... No...nothing. I guess she figured she would stop her retarted-ness for now. BUT... I did read something VERY interesting. Apparently this chick who is very "intelligent" and wise beyond her years, and well-versed in EVERYTHING thinks that it is OK to trap her boyfriend into staying with her by letting him go off inside her without a condom. Such wise words... HA. And I'm the dishonest one? Spare me... I won't be going back after today...I just wanted to have one last look to see if she was chilling out. And I wont be commenting either way on her personal life any longer...I guess I just found that interesting. I'll stop with the drama now...I promise. Hope everyone had a fabulous Christmas with their families, and please have a happy and SAFE new years. One love to ALL- Jaded

Just When....

....You thought it was safe. ;o) Yes, my friends...as some will be disapointed and some will be happy...for better or for worse...I have returned. I began another blog, but decided that in the interest of time and for the sheer fact that I am a lazy lazy girl...I will not be going to all the hassle of exporting all of my old posts there. I also have decided that I will not be letting a few petty people out there...and drama stop me from doing this...which I love. Truth be told I miss my friends here...my TRUE friends. So...as I said before...here I am. YAY!!!! BOOOOOO!!!! Whichever side of the coin you fall on there, I could give two shits. I am here because I miss my blog...plain and simple...read or don't, comment or don't. Yep...don't really care either way. So...HI! How is everyone??? LOL. And even cooler...those of you who are thinking to themselves right at this moment that I am quite possibly manic, or even Bi-polar-I don't care about THAT either. TA DAAAAAA!!!!...
